The Color Purple

Topaz calls Fashiona her “tea party friend” in part because of the fun things they do like go to Alice’s Teacup where they serve fancy tea,  scones and yummy finger sandwiches. Both of them are prissy beyond reproach most of the time…except when unnecessarily crossed.

Fashiona is positive that the cab driver that got them “lost” in Williamsburg a few weeks ago is still looking for his kneecap dignity after Topaz told him about himself in English and Arabic.

Another noted exception is when the two of them went to a Prince concert. Since decorum and Prince don’t mix…they made it their night’s mission  to out-scream the groupies in the front row wearing purple from head to toe.

Speaking of purple…it is everywhere for Spring. Traditionally purple is more of a Fall color, but why not for Spring?

True Fashionistas always make up and break their own rules anyway…except actually wearing stark white before Easter and after Labor Day…regardless of what Miranda Anna Wintour says.

Next up, Fashiona reviews the latest episode of Harlem Heights. fashiona-sig.jpg

Roxie’s Masquerade Ball~Party with a Purpose

So Fashiona and Topaz were out on the town last night, dressed to the nines…their destination the Katra Lounge for Roxie’s Masquerade Ball.

Fashiona trekked across Brooklyn to Dina’s to get ready…why well not. Two hours later… gowns professionally steamed,  make-up and lashes expertly applied and Dina our resident über stylist snapping pictures…the glam dolls then ease into a cab and are whisked away to the lower East Side.

Fashiona, feline in more ways than one,me-diva_1.jpgprefers to observe a room before she pounces…

However, Ms.Topaz emboldened by her red lipsticktopaz-mask.JPG…dove right in, chatting up the opera singer.

Lucia Palmieri, a soprano soloist, amazed the crowd with songs from the Phantom of the Opera.

Fashiona learned while interviewing Lucia after her performance, that she worked as a cook and actually owned her own restaurant before a fateful meeting landed her in Julliard and singing with New York Grand Opera.  Just as Fashiona found Roxie through Craig’s List, so did Lucia and decided to lend her voice to help raise Roxie raise money for her volunteer efforts.

Lights, camera, flash and repeat……

Many pictures and a few fancy foo foo sandwiches later…Roxana Colorado arrived… and looked absolutely FANTABULOUS. Fashiona loved her look (Eva Longeria meets WestSide Story) right down to the fire engine red peep toe pumps.

full-roxie.jpg

Once center stage, Roxana spun a tale of a single mother leaving her homeland with her children and  coming to New York City, learning English and putting herself through school…a story repeated by many immigrants from all parts of the world.  Well…this woman was Roxana’s mother…and by the story’s end our hearts were a-flutter. Roxana, second generation New Yorker, is very cognizant of her mother’s bold courage and struggle found a way to give back.

In April, Miss Roxana is going to Peru to work in an orphanage…talk about a party with a purpose.

Bon Voyage Roxie

Golden Globes 2009 ~ the good, the bad and the OMG

So fashion wise, Thursday’s Broadcast Critic Awards  was a warm up to last night’s Golden Globes: where the  “beautiful people”   fight for  attention from the “beautiful and talented” stars.

Sans wedding ring (and girdle-less), Ms. Jennifer Lopez opened the night wearing a gold lame dress slit to… well a throw back to her days with Puffy/Diddy/whatever.  Now that she has children, Fashiona  supposes that she is going for the MILF awards…but there is no such show, darling  dearest. Moving on to “the Almost Always Well Dressed”:Beyoncé and Jay-Z looked quite suave together ~ with her rocking Elie Saab and diamonds galore…and Jay wearing his wedding ring  for the occasion (Fashiona peeped it later in the show)…how sweet.Photo Credit: WireImage/Granitzgolden1.jpg“Lady in red” Eva Longeria Parker has fully redeemed herself from her shameful lampshade dress appearance last year at the Emmys. She is wearing Reem Acra here.  Photo Credit: WireImage

Salma Heyek:  Now here is a sexy latina…

She is also a  new mom and still has her “va va va boom”  wearing Bottega Venta  without trying too hard.

Now to the “Best Dressed”: (drum roll please)
Kiefer Sutherland  looked great in his black  tux and grey tie.  The look is subtle but effectively different. Photo Credit: APapkeifer.jpgThe “Brunette Barbie and Ken award”  goes to Zac and Vanessa.Photo Credit: Getty Images

(Update)  Fashiona loved this one too…Eva Mendez  in Christian Dioreva-mendes4.jpg

Kate Winslet looked  absolutely fantastic(or smashing in British) in Yves Saint Laurent, from  her hair to the cut of her dress and good times she actually won twice last night.kate-winslet-golden-globes-2009-best-actress-34.jpgLook out for Fashiona’s coverage for  Oscars in High Def… goody gum drops. fashiona-sig1.jpg

Fashiona on the 14th Annual Critics’ Awards

Ahhh… the freedom of blogging where we all get to be critics. While the ranks of the amateur critics multiply everyday, the professional critics remain an elite club.  The stars really seem to cherish the awards given by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. This was the first year that Fashiona watched this particular award show and it seemed less intense and more fun than tonight’s Golden Globes and next month’s Oscars.

Fashiona was surprised to see all the stars at a sit down dinner.  One thought in particular kept going through her mind: Is there a “cool” kids table and who gets to sit there?  Also between the presentations, they were mingling.  Do they compare Botox injections or are they networking and shopping for their next gig?  Unfortunately  Fashiona can’t answer those questions but she can sum up what they wore.

The men wore tuxedos for the most part and favored traditional ties rather than the bow ties.  Ludacris, Chris Bridges when he is acting, looked appropriately dapper with the blood diamonds in his ears.luda1.jpgBrad and Angie (this century’s gene pool lottery winners)  looked quite the loving couple and she seems quite comfortable in her white dress. Hmmm…maybe she is practicing for a bigger event.  brangie.jpg

Black is always prevalent but Fashiona was absolutely thrilled with the amount of rich color she saw.  The array of blues and purples reminded her of expensive birthstones ~ after all Fashiona’s birthstone is Sapphire.

Angela Bassett was a vision in a wrap style evening gown.

angela-bass.jpg

Amy Adams‘ red hair was so vibrant ~ it was almost an accessory to her royal blue strapless dress. The brooch was a nice accent but Fashiona would have placed it bit higher to maximize viewership.

Her favorite dress of the evening was worn by Kate Beckinsale- a stunning number in royal purple. She perfectly accented the look with pulled back hair, large bracelets and chandelier earrings.  The dress was a bit on the long side though…a tailor could have hemmed it so we could see just a peek of the no doubt designer shoes underneath.

Oh never mind, Fashiona found the answer to the Botox question… dear Mickey Rourke mickeybc.jpg

apparently used the entire inventory and  met the quota for hair highlights for the entire LA area.

Fashiona will be back mañana with her Golden Globe coverage.
