Black History Month is coming to a close and Fashiona would like to address the complaint of those who are critical of Michelle Obama’s fashion choices…in particular the Black Artists Association. She has taken some heat from some that question her design choices. This assertion annoys Fashiona greatly…
Fashiona loves fashion and has no problem analyzing someone’s hits or misses…including Michelle’s. In fact, Fashiona has still not quite forgiven that red and black number Michelle wore for then President-Elect’s victory night. But Fashiona does concede that style is a freedom of expression and that is still allowed in America.
Trying to “tell” Michelle that she should wear clothes made by black designers is like telling someone that they can only live in a “black” neighborhood or a red-head that they can’t wear pink. Or hello…voting for her husband Barack Obama for president just because he is black.
Are there talented black designers…of course …is Michelle Obama “required” to wear them…ummm no. She is a woman of integrity, with own style and has shown us that she will wear what she wants regardless of our opinion.
Fashiona is confident that if Michelle likes something that a black designer has created…she will wear it gladly.

Fashiona has decided that fashion shows are like weddings. Often exorbitant amounts of money is spent, nerves are frayed, pounds are lost(if you are lucky)…all for a few blissful moments in the spotlight.
Fashiona met up with Dina Yassin (an uber-fabulous stylist) to see Alexandre’s show. While waiting in line, Dina is snapping pictures and Fashiona is analyzing the Barbie shrine and is completely captivated for a minute(maybe two, she has a short attention span).

Soon after they are herded in the tent and jockey for a great, decent okay a spot to see the show. Fast forward to the finale because Fashiona had technical difficulties with her camera.
Clap, Clap, Kiss, Kiss and storm the backstage.
No sooner than Dina and Fashiona arrive, this angry Brazilian queenie man was snapping his neck and fingers like in the Madonna Vogue video. Pepé (not his real name) got all extra crispy because he was late and not allowed in the show. His argument was that he was from Rio de Janiero and came all this way to see the show.
Now Fashiona, who is not always the most prompt…is on time when it is absolutely necessary (flights, port calls, weddings, funerals, fashion shows).
Finally Pepé exhausted from yapping away, sashayed away….never to be seen again…till next year.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this scene is possibly repeated season in and season out with every designer and every show and yet they are jam packed…always.

Hollywood’s version Confessions of a Shopaholic

was released on February 13…
No Fashiona has not seen it. She wanted to read the book first and as of yesterday she has.
Prior to Fashiona’s February Fabulousity post, Kelly from 30 something had already expressed her irritation with the movie changing the setting of the story from London to Manhattan. Kelly has read the entire series and is therefore more attached. Read her post, it is quite funny.
Sophie Kinsella’s book
is delightful and part of what makes it charming are the British sayings(Mum,bloke, bloody, loo). Fashiona found it challenging to convert sterling pounds to dollars in her head to determine just how broke Rebecca Bloomwood really was. The harassing and increasingly frequent letters that she received from her many creditors were quite eloquent but honed on the fact that little Miss Spendthrift addicted to Jimmy Choos did indeed have to pay back the money(a universal lesson that Fashiona is learning too.)
Having that said, Fashiona will probably watch the movie when it comes out on DVD since movie going is NOT part of her streamlined budget.
Fashiona is off to the Alexandre Herchcovitch show.
