Fashiona’s Christmas Tidings
Fashiona wants to wish all her readers a very Merry Christmas. She fully intended on writing this yesterday but her plans were thwarted. She did indeed get up at 4 am to catch her train - applause please.
She arrived on time and Sis came to get her from the station but they didn’t go home. They went Christmas shopping - yes on Christmas Eve. No…she and Fashiona are not procrastinators. They were asked to play Santa because Mom and Dad were not yet back from their anniversary celebration. So Fashiona and Sis rose to the occasion and braved the last minute rush to buy some gifts for children. Luckily they found most everything, wrapped them up and dropped them off before 7 pm.
Why did these 30 somethings go to every toy store in the DC area in search of all things Hannah Montana and glow in the dark footballs for children they haven’t met?- well because spreading joy is what Christmas is about. Fashiona felt happy as she drifted off to sleep too exhausted to think of sugarplums. Good thing because she is working off 10 lbs too.
Christmas and most of the gift giving holidays in America have been so heavily commericalized that people feel pressured into buying gifts they can’t afford to put on a “show” for the kids.
Remember Mary, she would have been happy with a clean bed and an epidural. Instead she was thrilled with an empty barn and healthy baby Jesus.
Of course we can NEVER have enough money but there are plenty people around us who have far less. Their wish for a simple car repair or snow boots for the kids is more meaningful then a new pair of Prada’s. If you are in a position to help someone… great if not just call them and lend an encouraging word. That goes a long way also.
So Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah. For my British and Australian readers Happy Boxing Day tomorrow. And Happy Kwanzaa to all who celebrate.
