Fashiona and the AKAs
It is July 14th and Fashiona is back in NYC. She was in DC over the weekend and saw enough Pink and Green to think she was in a never ending Lily Pulitzer ad!!!!
Alas, the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority had their 100 year Boule and truly took DC by storm, all 2o,ooo+ of them. Fashiona is way too self-absorbed to be in anything other then Me Phi Me, but she likes what the AKAs represent-sisterhood and service.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is the first black Greek sorority ever and founded at Howard University in 1908. Their membership includes actress Phylisha Rashad, fashionable Jada Pinkett Smith and the forever stunning Debbye Turner (former Miss America). No, Fashiona did not see these three ladies but did see thousands of dazzling AKAs representing in the usually tough to wear together pink and green.
Not only did these ladies look fabulous as a whole this weekend but Mattel has launched a Black Barbie in AKA regalia( salmon pink and apple green). The beautiful doll is a collectible and will retail for about $50.
The licensing venture is the first of its kind and no surprise that AKAs were the first to land such a tribute.
Congratulations Ladies !!!
